Averill McBride

Managing Funeral Director

After raising her two children Averill fulfilled her working life with various jobs in supervising a preschool and administration. When the family decided to make a move from Mossburn to Winton an opportunity arose to start a career in the funeral industry. This was something that Averill had wanted to do for a long time and ever since she has never looked back.

“This would be the most rewarding job I will ever do. I knew that at times it wouldn’t be the easiest but over the last three years I have never doubted my ability to be the best I could be for families and caring for their loved one.”

After spending her first year learning all aspects of the job, Averill went onto completing her Funeral Directing diploma at Weltec University in Wellington. She passed with flying colours and even though it was hard to be away from home for her block courses she found it valuable and made some precious lifelong friends. “I felt out of my comfort zone being an adult student, sitting exams and writing assignments but it was enlightening to take that step and push yourself”. It all paid off and when Averill looks back at the last five years she couldn’t be happier with the experiences she has had, the many people she has met and the families she has worked for.

Averill is 43, lives in the heart of Winton with her two teenage children, Troy & Ellie. When she does get that spare time she loves gardening and spending time with her family. A bit of a movie buff and a drive down to the beach for an afternoon are ways that Averill likes to spend some of her time.

“I feel very privileged to be able to care for people who have passed away. To guide families at a very sad time of their lives and to organize a celebration of someone’s life”.
