First Notification of a Death:

When someone dies and you make that first call to us, in addition to our usual questions, we will ask you if any family members are showing any signs of illness or have been advised or required to self-isolate.  Depending on your circumstances we may ask for the room/facility to be vacated when we transfer your loved one into our care. This is for the safety of our staff.

Transfer:

Please be prepared for our staff to be wearing Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) when they arrive  Additionally, a facemask may be placed on the deceased.  This is because air can be exhaled as we transfer onto our stretcher.  Again, these measures are for the safety of all involved.

Funeral Arrangement:

During this time of lockdown, there will not be any family arrangement conference. All arrangement interviews will be conducted over the phone and via email or video conferencing with one of our experienced funeral directors. Please note that arrangements for a Public or Private funeral service are not currently possible, however we will plan to offer you the opportunity for you to express your final farewells in the form of a Memorial Service once the current restrictions have been lifted.

Preparation and Viewing:

The latest advisory from the Ministry of Health states that under Alert Level 4, there will be no family viewing of open or closed caskets. We know that this will be one of the most difficult aspects of the lockdown period for grieving families to come to terms with.

Funeral Services:

Burial and Cremation procedures are the only procedures that can be carried out at this time. These procedures will be carried out by Funeral Home staff, and Cemetery and Crematorium staff. All procedures will be video recorded and a copy made available to the family.

Premises Attendance:

Please note that during this Lockdown period, normal hours of office attendance do not apply. Our premises will be attended as and when essential tasks are required.

Questions:

We are committed to providing our families with great service in the weeks and months ahead but please understand that there may be some necessary changes to our usual practices. If you have any questions or you would like to discuss how the situation might affect your specific funeral, please contact our office so we can assist.

Please take care and look out for each other so we can minimise the risks to you and your family.

Thanking you,

Wilson Fraser
