So sorry to hear the news. I have just moved back south and one of the guys pointed out Barry’s house to call in but alas too late. Always remembered Barry for his dry wit and solid family values. He was a good guy.
John Egan, Invercargill
My condolences to Kathleen and family on the loss of Barry.
I have fond memories of first meeting Barry at Tiwai about 40 years ago. He had just started with NZAS when there was a strike and we ended up working together in the potrooms over quite a few days.
Barry was the most friendly , likeable and enthusiastic guy you could ever wish to meet and I will never forget the laughs and chats we had during the strike. Yes, some work was done as well! R.I.P. Barry

So shocked to hear this news. Barry was such a nice man. Always smiling, and dealing with difficult HR issues at Tiwai with care and great tact. My best memories of him will be as a passionate advocate for people who found themselves in a difficult position at work. A genuinely kind man.
Deepest condolences to Kathleen and all his family

Barbara and I can’t believe that we will not be able meet up with Barry anymore and discuss (solve) NZ and world issues. He would always stop whatever he was doing, be it painting the house, gardening or tidying the garage, for a chat. He was proud of his family and especially his grandchildren and he loved walking the trails around Arrowtown.
I was fortunate enough to work with Barry as a colleague in the mid 1980’s, he was always very helpful and loyal, and had a dry sense of humour.
Our sincere condolences to Kathleen and family.
Barbara and Mike Farrier, Arrowtown
Dear Kathleen, Bernadette, Aidan, Connor and families. Fergus and I were so sad to hear of the tragic passing of Barry. I think the words 'incredibly proud family man' are so apt for Barry. I know how committed to his children he was and so very proud of all their sporting and academic achievements which are many. Barry always had a smile and a warm hello and has been taken too soon. We feel especially for you Kathleen as Barry was your best friend and you were such a committed caring couple. You are all so very much in our thoughts and most definitely in our prayers. Brigid More

I’m so incredibly sad and sorry to hear this news!

Barry was a great support to me throughout the years (refereeing rugby)! Such a kind man who always encouraged me, provided me sound advice and told me to back myself! Barry was always approachable and I always enjoyed having a yarn with him (even his random pocket calls) and he spoke with great pride of his wife, children and grandkids and the joy that they brought him!

Condolences to his family in this incredibly sad time!

I will always remember Barry as being hard working and committed to his work at NZAS, proud of his family and of his work being a J.P. Whenever advice was sought from Barry he was only too willing to share his knowledge with thoughtful guidance. Life can bring unexpected tragedies and Barry's passing is certainly one of these.
