So sad to hear of Johnny's passing. He taught me stone and bone carving at SIT in the early 2000s. Something a 50 something woman never imagined she could do. A great craftsman and teacher, with a broad smile and a twinkle in his eye. I'll never forget him, I still wear the carvings he taught me to make. Thank you Johnny. Rest In Peace.

To the Penisula Family.
So sorry you have list Johnny. He was a great man and an extremely talented artist and teacher. I studied with him in the 90 s and he was always an inspiration. His soft and calm manner was lovely to be around. Johnny always spoke lovingly of his family and I know you will miss him terribly. I am so lucky to have known this amazing man.

To Auntie Mavis, Lyle, Neetia & Kerry,

Our condolences of the passing of Uncle Johnny. Dad so badly wanted to be there for Ioane & you all. We can’t say how sad we were at Uncles passing but can only take solace in he is in a good place & not suffering anymore. We will forever remember him as the most gentle, patient person we know, always ready to teach & show one how things are done (fishing, carving etc) he did so with his easy going attitude & smile. As I remember he & Dad speaking Samoan constantly while we were fishing, or in the workshop, he was the most gentle of men & had a beautiful soul. On a personal note I & my girls will forever feel an attachment. As I will as my girls are forever wearing the tribal tattoo. Detailing my family history that, Uncle designed. Uncle Johnny/Ioane will be greatly missed by Dad and by as myself & the rest of the family. Our love & condolences to you all.

With all my love to Mavis and family.
It was an honor and a privilege to look after Johnny.
He was a ray sunshine and he made my day. I looked forward to going to Nelson Street in the mornings.
Johnny made me feel so very special. He would say to me everyday ' you are a lovely lady Debra' and would thank me.

Well Johnny there better be infinity chocolate fish and Samoan hot chocolate in the after life. Oh and green tea.
I will miss that cheeky smile.
(A beautiful human)
