Collie, Neil David: Suddenly, but peacefully, the culmination of a long struggle with Alzheimer’s, at Rowena Jackson (formerly of Kauana) on Friday, November 24, aged 73. With Lyn, his loving and devoted wife of 46 years by his side in a special last moment together. A much loved father and father-in-law of Jared and Prue (Kauana), Kirsten and Tim (Christchurch), Bridget and Leon (Christchurch). Super proud Grandad of Tom, Angus and George Collie, *Toby, Lyla, Penny, Kipp and Greta O’Sullivan, Felix, Zara and Harriet Head. Loved brother and brother-in-law of *Owen and Barbara, Fergus and *Lynette, Hugh and Lynley, and Donna and Wayne Whitburn. Loved Uncle Neil to all his nieces and nephews. A celebration of Neil’s life will be held at J Fraser and Sons Chapel, corner Esk and Doon Streets, Invercargill on Wednesday, November 29 at 1.30pm. This will be followed by a private family cremation. The family would like to thank all who have been involved with Neil’s care throughout his Alzheimer’s journey over the past 11 years, especially his most recent carers at Gaius Cottage and Rowena Jackson. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society, Southland, would be appreciated and may be left at the service.

‘Alzheimer’s doesn’t erase the person you were; it just makes it harder to remember’

To Jared Kirsten and Bridget hold onto your precious memories of growing up on the farm with your Dad..His values and strong sense of family will stay with you for life, and onto your own children .Alzheimers May have robbed your families in latter years, but it cannot erase the true identity of the husband father and grandfather you knew and loved.
Our hearts go out to you, and all of the Collie family.

Thinking of you all at this sad time. Neil had a influence on us when we were growing up. Sense of humour and his work ethic. Will be sorely missed.

Dear Lyn, My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family on the sudden passing of your beautiful husband, father and grandfather. Neil was a classmate from Otautau school and I have wonderful memories of a really lovely gentleman, special times with lots of laughter at our class reunions. Such a beautiful couple and devastating when Neil’s quality of life was effected so young with Alzheimers but a blessing that he had such an amazing, loving and caring wife to look after and support him at home for such a long time. Neil is now at peace in heaven and no longer suffering. My love and thoughts are with you and your family at this very sad time in your lives and I know that the beautiful memories of Neil will be in your hearts forever. Love and God Bless. Carol ❤️🙏🙏

To Lyn and all your family, our thoughts go out to you all on the loss of Neil. A man who was such a good husband, a good father, a good farmer, a man who certainly didn’t deserve the cards dealt. I have happy memories of childhood days in Otautau and on the Collie’s Bayswater farm, the sun always seemed to shine back then.
