SARFATI, Dr David

Sadly, David tragically passed away while having a good time on Thursday 30 May 2024 aged 90 years young.

David was the deeply loved husband and best friend of Jenny for 60 years. Adored Dad and father-in-law of Jonathan and Sherry, Peter, Michael and Brenda, and Richard. Cherished Grandpop of Theo; Sarah, Amy and David, Stephen, and Grace and precious great-granddaughter, Calypso. Loving brother-in-law of Patti Auld and family.

David was living the dream and will be deeply missed by all.

The family thank the staff from Rowena Jackson for providing the happy environment that David enjoyed and they express their grateful thanks to the Surgical staff at Southland Hospital for their wonderful care of David.

A service to celebrate David’s life will be held on Wednesday 5th June at 1.30pm in J Fraser & Sons Chapel, Cnr Esk & Doon Streets, Invercargill followed by a private cremation. Messages to 103/21 Hastings Street, Waikiwi, Invercargill 9810

I worked closely with David in Porirua for about two years, while I was Registrar psychiatry.
I was about 60 when I worked with him as I had started my training at a much later age. David was such a wonderful and wise man. I always enjoyed his warmth and Compassionate way of working both with patients and staff. This is now about 18 or 19 years ago, but I still remember him so vividly. David and I often actually spoke in French.
A great man has passed over the threshold, and an example for all of us to stand for the truth and to be yourself with compassion and tolerance for others. I was thinking about David about ten days ago, and that must have been around the time of his death, when I’ve felt his presence quite strongly.
I wish the family and especially his wife and children all the strength to cope with the grief.
With warmest greetings,
René de Monchy
