Dear Shirley and family.
Please accept Jill and my sincere condolences on your loss.
Owen and you all were our neighbours and farmed next door to us for more than 30 years, and you have been part of Nicola’s and Tom’s lives more recently.
People often talk of the falling of a tall tree, Owen’s love of his land and the native bush made him one of those tall trees, someone to look up to and respect.
Owen was a friend to many and while my involvement with him ranged from dog trial committee’s to Boards of Trustees, what I value most was the yarns we would regularly have on the side of the road.
I generally valued his advice, and once I remember him complimenting me on the ploughing job I was doing opposite your farm which pleased me as the day before Norman Hall told me I was making a mess, maybe they were looking from different sides of the paddock?
Shirley you and your family are in Jill’s and my thoughts at this time and please accept our sympathy.

Shirley and Family, we are so sorry to hear of Owen's passing. We remember him fondly as a great neighbour and willing servant to the many district organisations he so willing gave his time to. The Hokonui school board, the Winton collie club and the Browns Sports in particular. We are so pleased we had that afternoon with you both a couple of years ago, when we caught up with the happenings of the Hudson clan in the twenty years since we had left the gorge. One memory is Owens willingness for a yarn. Returning the odd stray lamb between us could take anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours depending on whether Owen was about, and the many times we meet on the road and talked side by side until another vehicle arrived to move us on. A great guy gone too soon. Treasure the memories.

Grandpa. We will miss you. We find it hard not being there right now.
We look back on the memories we have like, you giving us rides on the quad bike around the farm. Bringing me to Winton in the big mustard truck to do jobs. You pretending to enjoy the hords of insects we captured and brought into the kitchen in the many many olivani containers.
Farewell our Gental giant.
All our love Reilly, Erin & James

Owen, When we met, I was content to believed that you found my humour very enjoyable. You always laughed at my jokes... until Glenn told me you couldn't understand a word I said. Not sure If that ever changed.
You didn't bat an eyelid when I presented a box of chocolate coated almond box to you at Christmas, and you opened it to find only almonds. I told you I'd sucked all the chocolate off, as it was bad for you.. not sure if you believed me, but you never ate those almonds.
You have been a welcoming father in law, and for that I thank you.

Owen,
When we met, I was content to believed that you found my humour very enjoyable. You always laughed at my jokes, and smiled and nodded in agreement withwhat I said. THEN Glenn told me you couldn't understand a word I said. Not sure If that ever changed.
I found you fun.... You didn't bat an eyelid when I presented a box of chocolate coated almond to you one of the earlier Christmases, and you opened it to find just almonds.
I told you I'd sucked all the chocolate off, as it was bad for you.... not sure if you believed me.... but you never ate the Almonds!
You have been a welcoming father in law, and for that I thank you.
With warm love, Jacqueline
