THOMPSON, The Venerable Arch Deacon Miki:

20-3-1925 - 24-3-2025

E te rangatira, moe mai, moe mai moe mai ra

It is with deep sadness we wish to announce the passing of our dearly beloved Miki Tamihana, at Hospice Southland on the 24th March, surrounded by his Tamariki and Wife. In his 101st year.

Cherished husband of Helen Thompson, and adored father of the late Leslie, Donna and John, Michael and Denyse, Ann, Viki, Hayley and Trevor, Cassie. Beloved friend of Shona, and Sue. A special Grandad to all his mokopuna, and a special friend to the late Jocelyn Thompson. Miki was the youngest, and last of his generation.

We would also like to acknowledge the amazing Hospice Angels that took such good care of dad.

A service to honour his life will be held in Nga Hau E Wha Marae, 193 Conon Street, Appleby, Invercargill, on Thursday 27th March, at 1.00pm. Followed by a private cremation. Messages to 58 Selwyn Street, Appleby, Invercargill 9812

Sad news. I honestly thought he would live forever.

First memories were of him in Tanner street partying with my Dad. Great times in a very close social era.

Also remember him as a shearing contractor, car sales owner and then at Tiwai as a Foreman. He loved to get the production tally out .

Officiated at Karen’s wedding which was special for us.

Condolences to the family . A special man.

Kia ora Matua, you and my papa, Rangi Maere arrived in Invercargill around the same time. Both shearers, and both typical Kahugnunu men that married southern women. I'll always be grateful to you for being there for my mum, Daph and brother Tam when they passed away. You are an absolute legend and my condolences to your whanau from the Maere whanau.

Hello Hayley and family. I write this on behalf of my husband Russell who passed away last year. Miki and your family lived near us in Kakapo St?? Then Russell worked with Miki at Tiwai Smelter for a few years then their paths crossed again at Blue Star Taxis. Russell was very fond of Miki and amazed at all he managed to achieve in his wonderful long life. Gods blessings to to you all. Kaye Crowther
