Dear Dawn and family,
Sad to learn of Don's passing, send our sympathy and prayers as you gather to celebrate and farewell his faithful life.
Don as Manager along with Dawn as Matron ,supervised a generation of young people at the Gore High School Hostel. Don a trusted guide and father figure of true Christian character, wise, fair, firm and caring far above and beyond the call of duty. A friend and confident of parent and student alike, we remain ever grateful. I enjoyed later catchups at Cromwell church. Sorry unable to be with you on Saturday.
Yours sincerely James Watt ( from Friends of Hostel Committee)

May God give you strength at this very sad time for you all. Sincere sympathy.
Lauris Richardson, Invercargill, Southland,
I’m so sorry I can’t be there today to be at the finish line for the completion of Uncle Don’s race, I have little doubt that he has obtained the greatest prize that could be awarded to us. That prize being he will spend eternity with his Lord and Savour who he served! While we may miss him to varying degrees let us all rejoice!

Some memories of Uncle Don…

One of my memories of Uncle Don is when he and Aunty Dawn were visiting Mum and Dad at Kelso. One morning Mum went to call Chris and myself on a private telephone we had to our sleep-out for breakfast, meanwhile Uncle Don managed to get a bucket of cold water and jump the fence before Mum could turn the handle to ring the telephone, luckily for myself I was up and saw him coming but can’t recall what happened to Chris!

My last time with Uncle Don was December 2020 when Mum kindly brought me to Invercargill to visit him and Aunty Dawn where I was briefly reacquainted with little Lisa. Two things about that visit reminded me of Gods provision:

I witnessed how his whole countenance lit up when we talked about God and the Bible, to me this spoke of the deep relationship he had with our Lord and Savour. At the time we must have had a 30 minute conversation while Mum and Aunty Dawn were catching up. Over that time he passed on a lot of invaluable Godly wisdom and watered a parched soul that afternoon and for that I will be eternally grateful to God who was able to use his servant in such a personal way that day. Since that time I have said to a number of people that someone with Don’s condition is the perfect councillor as they can dispense such invaluable Godly advice and will not recall the conversation afterwards.

More importantly Don demonstrated to me that God can utilise anyone if we are prepared to allow him, no matter what happens to us!

Praying for you all today as you say good bye to a husband, father and a grandfather but more importantly remember him as a man that demonstrated how we should follow our Lord and Saviour.
