My Grandad, from Natalie
Living so far away meant I didn’t get to spend as much time with you as I would have liked, but your influence still travelled all this way.
Even though you didn’t get to meet all of your grandchildren over here, you were still known by them through the stories and photos I shared with them of our time on the farm. I relive the fond memories I have of fishing with you when I take my kids fishing with my dad. Now they’re the wimpy ones when it comes to killing them, not me.
To me, you were always quietly kind, caring and patient. Especially with me not being accustomed to farm life and wanting to keep all the lambs as pets.
You were the first one to try and teach me how to drive a car.
I have a lifetime of memories from bonfires, betting on the horses and your Vegi garden that I hold very dear. I’m sure you’ll be checking in on us all from time to time and making sure I’m teaching the kids how to cast properly.
I hope you’re enjoying the whisky up there, until we meet again.

A memory of grandad that always makes me laugh is when I was about 8 staying on the farm when Nana and Grandad still lived there. Grandad was cooking eggs for breakfast and I wanted a hard boiled one. I don’t know how many we went through but he couldn’t leave one in the pot long enough for the white not to be runny. I didn’t have any eggs that morning but Grandad sure had a lot! Thinking of you all, I’ll be having a gin with Kieran and the dogs. Lots of love, Sasha xxx
