John, you were one of the good ones. I have so many memories with you. You could talk the ears off an elephant and drink anyone under the table. You worked hard, played hard and loved hard. You were always there for me when I needed you. You would never say no.
I'll see you when I get there xxxx

Uncle John!
To me, a young boy growing up you were the most feared man besides my dad, a straight shooter and always to the point with no frills lol

You were rough as guts with a heart of gold and made yourself available if anyone needed anything at all.

Visiting you on Bluff Road always brought adventure and discovery. O will cherish those memories forever.

I appreciate you for so much it's hard to list the reasons why you were a great Totara in my life.

A toast to you legend!
Love you old man.
Rob Siolo, Vasse
Can’t believe I won’t see your smiley face around work anymore But I’ve fond memories of Weekend drives in your car in the 70s with Murray Harrison, Colin Telfer Lynne Hewitt and Suzanne Schins Gone far too soon

Sending my heartfelt condolences to the whanau and many friends of John. John and my father, Bruce von Tunzelman, had many wild adventures in their years fishing on the Tamarix. A treasured character from my childhood, I will remember John as a hard working, hilarious, generous and loyal man of action. I wish I could join you to celebrate his life.
Anna von Tunzelmann, Auckland
I cannot believe The Man is gone. You protected me at school when it was us against the world. You saved my life when I was about to get severally bashed in later life. I loved you like the older Brother you were to me. Rough as broken glass with a heart of gold. Rest in peace my friend

“It is with much sadness we heard about the passing of this incredible, kind rascal!  We spent a lot of time with Kini during our teenage years and into our early 20s.  We could always be sure that when Kini was around, we were safe and there was a laugh to be had, no matter where we were.

RIP John, you beautiful human being.
