One of my earliest ever memories of a good man, who was always happy to see me and loved his wife and family, and who never fell down from my highest admiration since then, my only uncle John.

He had a family he loved and a passion for the land he grew up in - he was a lucky man. And I was lucky to call him my Uncle John.

Ann, Mike, Bridget, Tim, Sean and Mary-Ellen, I’m so sorry for your loss, words fail at this time. Hopefully though I think you can take comfort in that your dad left a permanent imprint on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him, I know he certainly did for me. Whether it was in work or a in social setting he was widely liked and respected, we were all very lucky to have him in our lives. He will be greatly missed.

Dear Fogarty Family, very blessed to have known John and Ann and Family, thinking of John last night when Serena our Daughter was playing the theme song from Master and Commander on the viola and I was immediately transported to John’s 80th Birthday where we were regaled by the speaker of the Stewart Island crossing (cue photo from Cabbage Tree club) what a Legend......and the generosity of bringing in the cryvacked white bait to make fritters (thx Ann) from NZ to Aus (not sure how they got thru customs:-) to this great man being able to complete triathlons at 70 + years....there’s hope for us all. And the fact he helped his best mate’s Family following that tragic sea misadventure....Most of all just shall miss the easy conversations and fascinating life stories....he shared with us.......a true gentleman and an exceptional life well lived.....Haere ra Dusans
