The girls and I want to send our love and sympathy to all of Hugh's family. As my girls grew up from little children Hugh was always a loving uncle figure in their lives.

What a loss of such an independent, polite and very learned man. Hugh and I had such wonderful discussions as I drove him to Invercargill in the health shuttle. My sympathies to his family, he was special.

Fond memories of visits throughout my childhood. May you rest easy now Mr Boyd. Sending love and thoughts.

Uncle Hugh, you will be missed. And while my girls will grow up missing out on trips to Winton to see Uncle Hugh, Amy and I are glad that you got to see our girls at least once. In recent years, my sister Julie and I always looked forward to hearing how mum and dad's trip out to Winton with Uncle Bruce went. Those trips invariably ended the same - with mum driving dad and Uncle Bruce home, those two ex-telephone technicians asleep in the back after one or two (probably a gross understatement) too many drams.
Now that you are no longer around Uncle Hugh, I'll have to rely solely on dad and Uncle Bruce for the next quality British TV show. Was it you that introduced us to 'The Detectorists'? It is a beautiful show, and Amy and I both love it. When next we watch it, I'll have a dram in my hand, and you will be in my thoughts.
Valerie and John, thank you very much for your loving care of Huge.
An Englishman, Scotsman, and Welshman walk into a bar. The Englishman leaves, and the Scotsman and Welshman will miss him dearly.
Rest in Peace, Uncle Hugh. xx

Dear Uncle Hugh, I'll miss driving Bruce's car out to Winton to visit you whenever I was down, and being the sober driver so you and Bruce could share a drink. I'll miss hearing your tales of the Mercantile Cricket League and its sad demise. I'll miss finding out from you what's the latest UK detective series. I'll miss your smile and your laugh, and your beard. Thanks for being part of our family. Love, Julie x
