Denny was a great leader and organiser when we went to South Island Masters Badminton tournaments at Queens Birthday weekend to either Christchurch or Timaru. He went above and beyond his duties as Southland Masters club captain to ensure we all had a great weekend and great games.
I remember him fondly of many past social experiences he organised for many of his friends. RIP Den.
Our sincere sympathy to his family- Ann and Vince Conaghan.

On behalf of the IWMC Golf section we wish to send our love and throughs to Dennis's family. He wasnt only on our committee but was also a friend to many on and off the committee, he true was a great man. He will be sadly missed. Here is a wee story

Last year we played our once a month trip to bluff golf course. Dennis was so hang over that he could barely keep his eyes open on the bus, in not so great form he won that day over all and won the whizzos jacket which we play for, each that month.
Club captain Sharon Cronin, Invercargill

Loved our chats Dennis. A couple of weeks ago we were chatting about Covid and the vaccine. You said you had gone and got yours and had no issues. I said I was nervous as I have a bad needle phobia. You patted me on the back and said “you’ll be right girl.” Well Dennis I did it. Rest easy xx

The girls at St John Ambulance in Tay Street would like to pass on our condolences on your loss. Dennis was always up for an extra long yarn when he came in and we had many laughs with him over the years. We were already missing him with the sale of his business and now to think we won't bump into him, even at the Workies - is so very sad. Much love, Tracy & Nicki

Diane and family,
Heart felt condolences on the passing of Dennis. Will miss playing with and against him at masters events and a yarn afterwards. He will be greatly missed. Dave Mitchell, Otago Masters.

It was the saddest of news to hear of your passing. Your passion for and commitment to The Southland Masters Badminton Club was a significant factor in shaping the club, that the membership so enjoys. Our trips away were always memorable and you were a big part of these. I will miss seeing your cherry face at club night and especially miss the banter you and I shared.
Rest in Peace my good friend.
Steve and Linn McCartney, Invercargill
Condolences and lots of love to Diane and the family. Our thoughts are with you all at this sad time. We had lots of happy times and memories over many, many years. I'm sure you, Peter and Murray are having a good old yarn and a laugh together now that you have joined the 'ghost riders in the sky' gang.

Well Dennis it is a sad day for our family. You are a brother from another mother. We will have many memories of all the holidays we shared with you in Invercargill and mostly Frankton. Although we knew you were our cousin it felt like you were just a member of our own close family.
No matter how long it was between meetings it was always the same. Farewell
Michele, Nelson
Diane & family, we were devastated at the loss of a good friend and mentor, who had provided 'adjustment' during my days at Tiwai and a warm greeting with every encounter beyond. Our most heartfelt condolences
Brian & Barbara Chisholm, Queenstown
Your welcoming smile and cheerful continence will be sadly missed.
Badminton brought us together and a love of cars and bikes cemented our friendship. (Not to mention a cold beer after a big day on court)
I consider it an honour to be counted amongst your friends.
Rest easy.
Paul McCauley, Alexandra
I met Dennis and Diane through my parents Barry and Geraldine Ryan who were also members of the Southland ZZ club. Dennis was always friendly, on for a yarn and had a smile on his face.
I remember him coming into reception at the Invercargill Fire Station where I was waiting to go into a job interview for an ambulance officer position years ago. I was in uniform and told Dennis how nervous I was, he grinned at me and said "you've got this, you will do well, and you certainly look the part" and wished me all the best. I couldn't wait to tell him that I did get the job the next time I ran into him. Rest easy Dennis.

Dennis was a very good loyal mate and friend at the Invercargill Working Men's Club.
He will be sorely missed by myself and his other good mates at the Club.
Dennis was also a very active member of the IWMC committee during several years.

So very saddened to hear of Dennis's passing. I only knew Dennis for the last 4 years and intermittently caught up for a yarn and a joke. I'll truly miss those catch ups. My thought's and those of my wife Nic are with the family. Rest in peace Dennis.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this tribute... I was shocked to find out yesterday that one of ours (Soutland Masters Badminton) was taken tragically. Even though I no longer reside in Southland, my heart still has strong ties to this beautiful part of our country. And Denny was one of those I got to know in the 16 years we lived there. He was a great mate. I have such fond memories of a guy who loved life and loved badminton so so passionately. For many of our tournaments I was honored and privileged to partner him in mixed doubles. He was so good to me and was such an encouragement. He often esteemed me in front of our team particularly on those tough games where we didn't always win. But Denny always made you feel like you were a winner anyway. Denny, many will miss you but know this my friend... although you may be gone from this earth no one can take you from our hearts. My sincere condolences to his children and wider family and friends. 😢💔. Soutland Masters Badminton has lost one of its greats.
