Uncle Ian always had a big beaming smile. He would swoop me up and swing me around. I was shy and he would always try to bring me out of my shell with fun and laughter.
I have been reminiscing about heading down south back in the 70s to see Nanny, Pop, Auntie Mary, Uncle Ian, cousins; Jacqueline, Paula and Michael.
I remember always anticipating your southland hospitality of warmth, kindness and fun, from the side of the family that rolled their r's. Uncle Ian was a larger than life character who certainly features in those precious memories. My thoughts and love to you all at this time. xx
Robyn King (nee Collie), Christchurch
Ian , my friend! You left us in such a hurry and miss you already. You were a good person and always enjoyed your company, the last at the Invercargill Airport where you were waiting for your grand children to fly in. That was a special catchup, as we looked up, and there you were, standing there, with a broad smile on you face.
Farewell my friend and rest in peace and so sad we could not be at your farewell in Otatara.
Allan and Isabel Ashworth, Winton

Met Ian many years ago as we were both involved in harness racing. We teamed up about 15 years ago and, along with four others, brought a horse called Mister Barnett. He went on to win seven races for us and we enjoyed every one of those wins. The horse took us on a journey to cup week at Addington a few times for some placings but they were great weeks and Ian was such good company. Last time I was talking with Ian, he was right into his bowls and loving it. Ian was always enthusiastic in every thing that he done. Very sad to see that he passed away suddenly and my condolences to his extended family>
