My sympathy to the family. The last time I saw Ernie was when visiting my brother Jack in Timaru and Ernie called in on his way home. Sorry for your loss.

Ernie - long-time Forestry Extension Officer with the Forest Service in Dunedin and Invercargill. Loyal member of the Southland Branch of the NZ Farm Forestry Assn. His presence at field days will be missed.

Our sympathy to Malcolm, Judith, Karen and Susan and families as they bid their beloved father farewell. Our thoughts are with you at this time. Ernie spent alot of time with us on his many visits north. He was a big brother to Ronald, Bill and Yvonne. He said he was supposed to be the responsible one but that was sometimes debatable.
Ronald and Julia Penney and family, Kaikohe

Our sympathy to Malcolm Judith Karen Susan & families. Ernie was more than an uncle. He was a great friend who teased me as a young girl but also spoilt me. I have wonderful memories of holidays spent with Ernie and Helen. He will always be remembered.
Yvonne & Robbie Whittaker, Okaihau
To the family of Ernie and Helen. First, thank you to Susan for the phone call to tell us of the loss to you of Ernie, we very much appreciated you taking the time to do that. And also, thank you to you all for arranging the live-stream - it was so good to hear the tributes to Ernie, when we couldn't be there physically.
Alastair and I both worked with Ernie in N.Z.F.S. and forestry was always a main topic when we met, that, and the vegetable gardens! When Alastair came to Eastern Districts to manage Slopedown Forest, he was out on the forest all week, but his 'home' at the weekend was Helen and Ernie's. Alastair had known Helen for years, they were both from the same area in Dunedin. I knew Helen's mother for many years as she was a friend of my aunt, and therefore - the rest of our family! We have lived in the North Island for many years now, but appreciated visits by Ernie and Helen, and enjoyed calling on them when we were down south. Typical N.Z. connections which we value. Our sincere sympathy to you all, we have happy memories.
Heather & Alastair Pearce, Warkworth
