Dear Jeanette and family
I have lovely memories of Charlie when I was “Matron” at Peacehaven. I still have the beautiful letter he wrote when I left.
Please accept my deepest sympathy at this sad time.

I could have throttled him when he encouraged my children to go on AFS exchanges 30 years ago! But the broadening of their horizons with wonderful families in Japan and Czech Republic just 2 years after the wall came down was like gold. Thanks for your oversight and all you did for my family Charlie, and Jeanette too I know you were heavily involved. I think my Dad had a soft spot for him as a student at STC. Will be sadly missed.

My thoughts are with Jeanette and family at this time.
Charlie would go next door and maintain the section for Julian, which we were extremely grateful for.
I know he will be missed by many.

Rest in Peace Charlie.

Dear "Mom" Jeanett, you and "Dad" Charlie gave me a Home so I could learn what that means. I still regard 1978 as the most important year of my Life. Words cannot express the thankfulness für all you shared with me. You both, as well as Kathryn, Bruce, Ewen, Melinda and Gary, will always be wellkept in my heart.
Thank You for all you have done and given, all my loving is with You.

Jeanette and family today you all did Charlie proud - what a beautiful moving ceremony. Charlie will have that lovely smile looking down from heaven thinking not bad.
I am honoured to have known such a caring, modest but compassionate and caring man or achieved so much by his actions and deeds. I know you’ll miss him greatly.

My heart and prayers go out to all the Ireland family. Charlie shall be greatly missed but memories of him will be carried in forever. AFS afforded me the opportunity to originally come to NZ and our friendship continues today. I always looked forward to our visits and will continue to do so.
Until we meet again….
