So sorry to read of Else’s passing.. our condolences to you the family…a lovely lady to whom I visited often with her Avon products..always ready with a cuppa and a chat..loved her ornaments, proud of who gave her which one…talked about her lovely garden in Otautau, sweet peas, clematis that climbed her archway as we walked out to the gate…missed all that when Ian and I retired and moved to Christchurch…God bless her and may she Rest In Peace

Farewell Mrs Merriman
Dear Kaye, Gloria, Rosalie, Wayne and Noel and families, Thinking of you all across the Indian and Tasman seas on this very sad day to celebrate a life well lived in honour of a mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and friend, Mrs Elsie Merriman.
I have known Mrs Merriman literally since I was born as Kaye was born two weeks exactly after I was born in 1970. Some of the fondest memories I have of Mrs Merriman when I was growing up include when my Mum would take us kids on an early evening walk to the Merriman house, and sometimes it would be a starry moonlit night, and we would enjoy a lovely visit and cuppa. Mrs Merriman always made us feel welcome with her kindness, always with a smile on her face, and would readily say I’ll put the jug on for a cuppa. I know Georgie wrote she loved Mrs Merriman’s macaroni cheese! It was the best! Those indeed were the good old days growing up. Many fond and happy memories.

I always kept in touch with Mrs Merriman from the time I left home, which was a long time ago. But without fail, Mrs Merriman would always remember my birthday and I enjoyed receiving her cards as well as Christmas cards each and every year. Actually I have kept all of her letters in a seachest. It was only in the last five years that I no longer received those cards…

I always enjoyed the visits to catch up with Mrs Merriman and she would always update me on the news of the family. The last time I visited Mrs Merriman, when I was home in NZ, was in December 2018 when I took Mum and my daughter for a visit to her house in Winton.

You will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you for your kindness and motherly care over the years. Rest in Peace.
A Poem about Mothers…
We are born of love; love is our mother.
When you look into your mother’s eyes,
you know that is the purest love you can find on this earth.
A mother is she who can take the place of all others
but whose place no one else can take.
Life doesn’t come with a manual,
it comes with a mother.
May your soul rest in peace…Farewell.

My condolences to Gloria and the whole Merriman family. I spent many a weekend at the Merriman home in Ohai when I went to high school with Gloria. Elsie was probably busy enough but she always welcomed me in amongst the general family happenings. I nursed Tom 2-3 times so that was some payback for all the good times. Trish Marshall.
