So sad to read of John’s passing. I met John walking his dog up our road many years ago he offered to help out at the Arboretum and his memory is there for all time as he planted many blue bells under the trees. A true gentleman.

Dear family, and especially to Fay. I went to school at the same time as John, and have many memories. The "Dog show" in later years
was a highlight.
Jan and I had many enjoyable occasions when you lived in New Plymouth, and in London.
My condolences to you all,

Allan

I was saddened to read on Stuff this morning about the death of John. My sympathies are with you all at this sad time.

Fay is the only one of you who will know who I am but John and I used to spend a lot of time and did some crazy things together in our late teens and early 20s. He was 2 days older than me. We, unfortunately, lost touch when we both got married and he moved away from Kennington/Myross Bush district.

I was very interested to read the story published in the Southland times about his achievements. You must all be very proud of him and will no doubt miss him a great deal.

Once again my thoughts are with you all.
Murray Calvert, RANGIORA
Our very deepest sympathies to you all.
We just want to pass on our memories of John through the TV Dog Show participation and of the Country Calendar that he made here at Shortlands Station
John also came and stayed as a friend due to his ongoing dog trialing contact

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. John Gordon who I first met in February 1985 at Otairi Station just outside Hunterville when my dad Alf Boytnon was managing the station. John was filming for the Agridom at Paraparaumu at the time. In the years to come John had a lot todo with my folks when they lived in Titahi Bay & managing Pikarere Farm and he lived in the cottage on the farm. I have fond memories of watching John on TV with the The Dog's Show over the years. I would like to pass on my regards to John's family and am sad to hear of his passing....Kind regaeds....Brent Boynton

Although we only met John in his later years we really enjoyed his company. Not only when working together at the Annual Waiau Collie Club trials, but also when he joined our tailing gang and strayed for a beer after. He had a wealth of knowledge that he was happy to share with others, especially those who were willing to listen! He was a real community person who volunteered for many organistions, he just quietly got on with the job and will be missed.

As a former colleague of John's, I find this very sad news. Such a gifted guy and also a very funny man.

John wasn't an easy person to get to know, but once he thought you were OK, he was warm, engaging and supportive.  He certainly had a positive influence on my developing career.

He was unusual in that most television people are good at one or two things ... but John was outstanding at everything, from presenting, through writing, to directing.  And also was the brains behind A Dog's Show, which would have been nothing without him (despite valuable contributions from people like Peter Morritt, the director).

I really mean it when I say we won't see his like again
