A few words on Henry

It was a shock to learn of the Henry’s sudden passing.
So young.
Such an important part of the Invercargill team.
Such a well loved and respected colleague.
As regards his early death, I recall the saying, ‘the most outstanding bloom in the garden is often the first one picked.’
However, that is no comfort to Kirsten, and Libby and Josh.
So my prayers for Henry, and prayers and condolences also for his family in their sudden and unexpected loss.

I feel united with my former colleagues not only in grief at such an untimely passing, but also in a sense of thankfulness for having known, and worked with, and enjoyed a friendship with Henry.
Truly – as they say – he was one out of the box!
When I first moved to Invercargill, and even before I met Henry but heard his name mentioned, I could feel the respect in which he was held.
The way staff spoke of him reminded me of the saying, “When you truly respect someone their name is always safe in your mouth.”

Many a time Henry finished work around 1am, and we were on the phone to him before 0600 with some engineering issue.
As soon as we knew, “Henry is on the way” you could feel the relief.
Once he arrived, his quiet and friendly presence, and his steady and calm competence already set us at ease even before he solved the issue.
And later, with the jet introduction, the knowledge that Henry was available to return to IVC was a key and important part of Engineering approval for the service
Although I am currently in Portugal, I join with you as you remember and honour Henry, and offer my sincere respect, and my prayers for him, and for his grieving family and colleagues

Sad to hear of Henry’s passing. I met him through our work with Air Nelson. I always respected him as an engineer of quality and as a friendly, kind person.
Thoughts go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.

So sorry to hear about the loss of such an awesome guy. Henry was a fun guy to work with back in the day and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A gentle giant and with an awesome sense of humour that will never be forgotten. Love to Kirsten and family. Thinking of you all 💕

Henry was one of the best people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I loved working with him, he was great fun, loved sports chat and always keen for a beer! But he was also great at life advise! Especially when I started my own family and was juggling shift work with a 7 month old! ❤️
Sorry I can't be there today big guy but will have a speights for you tonight xx

I was incredibly saddened to hear about the passing of Henry. I smile to think of the times which I chased him around the apron at 5am trying to get his airport identity card and being scared of him. Over the 3 years which I worked along side Henry, we shared a smile (head nod when masks became fashionable) and a wave while waiting on the jet and on occasion the same hiding spot to get out of the elements. He will be missed dearly but never forgotten. ✈️💕

It was a pleasure to have known you Henry. As soon as I see the A320 I think of you and I will continue to do so. Thank you training me and showing me how to open the cabin door when I was a new team member at Invercargill Airport. I won't forget.
