Uncle Phil always reminded me of many older Chamberlain men from my childhood. Losing my father (his elder brother Joe) suddenly, meant that Phil was the closest living link to my Dad. His mannerisms and his stories evoked so many happy memories of Dad and the Chamberlain men who had gone before him. Amongst them were: Eddie, Grandad, Bob, Kelly, Dickie, Winston and Allan.
Special among his attributes was that dry Chamberlain humour where his little jokes were always followed by a glimpse in your direction to see if you'd enjoyed them as much as he had. Humour extended into family life too. Phil and Jan had burdens as all families do. Their reaction however was always to see the funny side with humorous banter whenever they were relaying the details to you. I will always remember Phil's wee chuckle and that momentary glimpse to check that you were on his wavelength. He loved his family, his sport and most especially his wife Janice. I believe that one of his last utterances was to say, "I married the right woman." Rest in Peace Phil in the knowledge that your marriage gave rise to a family who loved you.

Dear Janice, and Mark, Amanda, Virginia, Louise and Families:
I extend to each of you my Sincere Sympathy in the death of Phil.
There are many memories of those days in Otatara and of the friendship which will never be forgotten.
It is in those memories each of you have that will enable Phil to live in your hearts.
May Phil be at peace now in the presence of his Lord and God.

Lovely service Mark. Love to you and all the Family. My fondest memories of your Dad are backyard cricket and learning to get lots of trout quickly out of the Opio stream. Very handy for my later career. Give your mum a hug
